A RESPONSE TO AUM'S DEFINITION OF THE SOUL
Ah, the problem with terminology, words and meaning. First, let us consider the word "soul". I have copied this from Wikipedia:.
"The soul according to many religious and philosophical traditions, is the self-aware essence unique to a particular living being. In these traditions the soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sapience, rather than the brain or any other material or natural part of the biological organism. Some religions and philosophies on the other hand believe in the soul having a material component, and some have even tried to establish the weight of the soul. Souls are usually considered to be immortal and to exist prior to incarnation."
Well, if that doesn't confuse you, then you are smarter than me. Aum's problem [in this post] is that he is using a very specific terminology and trying to answer a question based on terminology from another one or many systems which is a very general word rather than specific.
So, he starts off by stating the translation problem. The soul, actually comprises all three aspects of man and I have chosen to use the phrase "tri-self" in my writings which would be the equivalency of soul. Therefore, Aum states correctly that the inner self, or ku is a part of the soul-self. Still, Aum finds that when he trys to clarify this, his explanation is confusing. Recognizing his difficulty and remember that a channelled entity is constrained by the vocabulary and to some degree the concepts that the channeller has within his brain, Aum goes back to the Huna basic truth, that we are beings composed of three parts each of which have specific tasks, responsibilities and that they have an interdependence with each other. It is when you have awareness of these three aspects then you can begin to function as a complete soul. As you can guess, modern psychology and religion do not have this kind of understanding.
Now, it gets interesting! The phrase, "in your entity" identifies something else that needs to be considered. We have an entity which is a higher level of being than the soul or tri-self of which the soul or tri-self is a part. Along with this understanding of tri-self and entity, we also have a body which exists in a current time and space.
When you reach this understanding of the interaction of the three selves, you can appreciate and react to imagination and inspiration that comes from Aumakua, understand the dilemma's of the Lono as it strives for understanding within space and time, and develop communication with Ku and its aspects of automatic body functioning, it's ability to communicate with other ku's across space and time and dimensions and develop access to the incredible memory banks that hold all - all your experiences in this life and other lives. This gets you to grade one and now, as Aum says, you are ready to move. You do this by communicating consciously with Ku and using the incredible resources of ku to instruct, provide information and guidance and utilizing ku's ability to create the reality's you experience.
Finally, Aum felt it necessary to inform us that Lono is not "of the body" but is actually a component of the tri-self soul. Lono, is attached to the body, experiences through the senses of the body, feels the emotions through the body, has self awareness because of the body and is removed from the body at death and re-integrates with the other two parts of self between lives.

A HUNA INTERPRETATION OF AN ART CARVING
First, lets consider this is a representation of an art form, just like modern artists may work within a style such as impressionist, so this artist is working within a style called for lack of a better phrase, West Coast Native Totem Art. This type of art has not been recognized as a "psychological description of human psychology." Now, the artist may not know this but is instead working with form and animal descriptions that are resident within the style but which he has no conscious knowledge of the encoded meanings. Still, using these forms in traditional ways will still convey the true message the ancients were portraying.
In this art form, the human figure represents the conscious mind and it's attachment to the body. The whale is representative of the subconscious mind. To use these Western terms limits our ability to understand and so to build up a new knowledge, it is helpful to use new terminology that has no deep structure meanings within your current knowledge base. This allows for new meanings to be attached that do not conflict with previous knowledge's you may currently hold around the words conscious, body and subconscious and it is for this reason, I will use the words Lono, to indicate the conscious mind and it's various attributes and Ku to represent an enlarged version of the subconscious. As an aside, the phrase unconscious mind is an oxymoron and has literally no meaning, for if it is not conscious, then how can it exist.
Now to the artwork. We see a description of a man apparently climbing the back of a whale and he is perched precariously half way up the whales back. Translating this into a psychological meaning I would say that this represents Lono, which exists within the body made by Ku, trying to achieve the proper relationship as understood in Huna, that the conscious mind is the master and Ku is the servant. However, in the uninitiated, where this understanding is unknown, the interpretation would not have these meanings.
Now, it is the contention of Huna that most of us do not act in a proper way to our ku because we do not recognize that there is a proper relationship. So, this artwork is bringing into focus the idea of Lono trying to attain mastery over his Ku. Ku, because it has never been communicated with and has developed its own pattern of existence, resists this attempt of Lono to regain the proper relationship.
So, let us look more closely at Lono and the precarious position he finds himself in. He has made some headway in dominating Ku but you can tell by his body posture and his facial expression that he feels he is in a very dangerous place and is hanging on by his fingernails and hoping that Ku does not buck him off.
Now, when we look at Ku, we find he is in a posture that could be best caricaturized by the idea of bucking Lono off his back. His facial expression is one of resistance to this imposition of control being attempted by Lono. According to a Huna interpretation, this gaining of mastery over your ku is a very arduous and dangerous adventure. The ancients realized, like Freud, that the subconscious can hold all of our base emotions and is a dangerous place to to go. But in Huna, we realize that re-establishing the natural order, actually gives Lono immense power in the real world, in his mental and physical health and in his development of his latent abilities and is the path to expanded experiencing.
While Lono is represented as a man/body, a sort of singularity, the image of Ku as represented by the whale shows that Ku holds a multiplicity of functions. First, if you look at the middle right
hand side, you will see a figure of a face which may indicate reincarnational personalities still accessible through Ku and held within Ku. On the left hand side of the whale, you will see a face looking up which is the communicative aspect of ku that can communicate with Aumakua and with everything that exists. In the whales fin, you will see another face that represents those parts of us within ku that set up the operational behaviours that make up our personality and in the tail there is an indistinct figure that probably indicates our Ku's connection to Mother Earth. On the lower left side are three figures that I do not know what they represent, but rest assured, there are meanings to be discovered.
So, this coded art work is actually a part of a blue print that ancient man used to describe their understanding of the composition of man - and I might add is more complete and integrated than any description I have found in Western thought.

AUM POINTS - The Soul
We were out to supper the other night and Thomas spied this poster hanging on the wall of the restaurant. I took this picture of it. There was no information about the artist printed on the poster so I can't give any credits. I am assuming it is a Haida sculpture. Thomas tells me this is pure Huna and I'm sure he will add his thoughts to this post. What intrigues me about this sculpture is the man who is kneeling on top of the what appears to be a large whale. In Huna he would represent Lono, or the conscious mind, and he is perched atop the vast unconscious mind, or Ku.Here's what I found:
Could you define the relationship [of] the Inner Self [Ku] to the soul?
Aum:
The soul is three-fold and the inner self is part. The inner self is not a good phrase, for all soul is in it. It does the job of helping you to see it.
Consider, there is the lower area, the middle area and the upper area. You can label any or all of them, by colour, by name, by definition, by function, by which way the wind blows. It matters not.
Remember there are these three parts that co-exist, they have their tasks, their responsibilities, their inter-dependence...and only in being aware of all do you begin to function as a complete soul in your entity, in your body, in your current existence. And appreciating the inspiration of the higher self, a striving of the middle self (the consciousness if you will), the beautiful, smooth, automatic functioning, questing and incredible memory banks of the lower self....when all are brought in to play...then you will move.
All are important and the conscious self will with care, learn to draw on the resources of the others...and know them and love them and help them and be helped by them.
The soul is three-fold and the conscious is part of that three-fold - not apart, not separate. The conscious is not of the body. The conscious is of the soul.
