HUNA - A TIMELESS ALTERNATIVE

Huna - is a an ancient spiritual philosophy whose principles are applicable to:

all peoples
all times
in all areas of life.

It is a way of life that shows us how to be:

in harmony
in balance
in tune
with all that surrounds us.

Huna - is a set of spiritural principles/guidelines - not a religion.
Huna - consists of a set of beliefs.
Huna - is the concept that man has purpose.
Huna - is the concept of man as a threefold being.

Man has a body and the part of man that inhabits this body is called in Hawaiian - Lono and is similar to Western Pyschology's concept of the conscious mind or ego.

It has no gurus, no followers, and no dogma.

There is another part of man that operates the body. It secretes the hormones, it beats the heart, it fluctuates the diaphragm to control the breathing. It holds the key to all memories of the the total entity's existences. It does all the things the body needs to have done and is called - Ku and is similar to Western Psychology's concept of the subconcious.

There is yet another part of man that existed before man - before bodies - before Earth was - and will exist forever and this is called - Aumakua. This part of man corresponds to the concept of the God Self or High Self or superconsciousness.

Huna - is the awareness of the three funcions of self.
Huna - is the concept that the three parts of man outlive the body of man.
Huna - is the concept that we chose life as an opportunity to learn.
Huna - is the concept that we reincarnate, life to life, to life.

What we know in Huna is:

The three part consciousness of the total self, has no lifespan.
It simply exists - indefinetly, for good, for growth, for learning, for joy, continuously, repeatedly, forever.

Huna postulates only one sin - that man must conduct himself without the intent to harm any other being.

Huna is to be lived - daily - continuously - for growth and health and abundance.

OPEN THREAD - Ku's Pick

I have been thinking of a way to incorporate open threads into this blog for those times when life is busy and there is no time to post and also because bloggers love an open thread. I thought of using cartoons or music like many of the blogs I read but it just didn't feel like the right fit. I decided to check out some artwork we could use. Tonight I spent about an hour googling artwork - spiritual art, native art, westcoast art, huna art, hawaiian art etc. I was looking for something that would be interesting, pertinent to this blog and that would promote some lively dicussions about Huna. Well, I found lots I liked and then I couldn't make a decision on which ones to use. Then it hit me (slow learner :=] ). Let Ku decide.

This artwork is Ku's pick for the open thread. It is Spiritual Beings painted by Roy Thomas an Ahnishnabae-born artist who resides in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I confess to knowing little about the symbolism behind native art but this for me, is the three-part self. The fish swimming under is Ku, the bear with his feet on the earth is lono and the bird rising above is the Aumakua. They are encircled by a red line that incorporates the yellow sun which the three are moving towards. As our friend Sakawa would say, "What think you?"

OUR STORY ...Still being written

This is our first post. We are just getting this site up and running so when we have time we will write our story. We promise, it is a good one. We know that's backward but then this site is about beaconing Huna and in Huna there are no rules!

In the meantime, enjoy and have a look around our site.
